Today is ‘Earth Day’. This coming Sunday (April 24th) was my father’s birthday. ( He passed away 16 springs ago. ) In another week or so we will celebrate Mother’s Day. …And a few weeks after that, I will finish completely packing up the house where my husband and I have raised our two sons and move our family to another new house on a hill. All of these occasions bring to mind many pieces that I have created; here are a few of them: I did this painting called “Spring Green” in mid-March of this year and to celebrate the wearin’ o’ the green, I posted it on my “Tides of Eternity Art” facebook page on St. Patrick’s Day - - just a week or so before this year’s Easter. Today I’m sharing it on this blog in celebration of 'Earth Day'. I have shared some about my “Tides of Eternity” clocks here on this site on my “About” website page... You can find that page here. The process of making and designing my many art clock pieces was essentially my own created ‘therapy’ through a particularly overwhelming time in my life. By following my instincts, this art served as a form of ‘alchemy’ or medicine or hands-on meditation. I now understand it as a sort of "mandala", but at the time when I created it way back in the nineties I had never heard of the word mandala nor did I know what one is. In my mind, the process was propelled by something along the lines of the cliché “one day at a time.” …Though it is clear to me that I can find endless layers of timely and timeless universal meaning in each “Tides of Eternity” piece. One of the first framed “Tides of Eternity” clocks that I gave as a gift was to my Dad for his birthday in April of 1999. Sadly we found out at the end of that year that he had cancer, and he passed away just before his birthday the following spring. Equally as sad, my Mom passed away just a few short years after my Dad. I remember that for that first Christmas after my Dad’s passing, the first Christmas of the new century, I made a Christmas ornament using the seasonal tree theme I designed in my clock. I made the paper ornaments ( pictured above ) to send to family and friends as Christmas Cards for Christmas 2000. Though I don’t have a picture of it now ( it may be packed in boxes at this time since we are moving ), I also made a special dimensional ornament of this design for my Mom where I added additional layers, sparkle and trimmed the entire piece with crystal beads. I gave that special crystal beaded one to my Mom in December of 2003, just a few weeks before she sadly also passed away on the 21st, the Winter's Solstice, of that month. I am finding the occasion of our moving homes relevant to this post because we lost my parents shortly after me, my husband and our two sons moved into the house that we have been so happy in ever since the very beginning of this new millennium. In the early 2000's, it was with thoughts of my passing Dad & Mom and their love of our Irish heritage that I found inspiration for the walls in our kitchen where I hand scripted An Irish Blessing encircling all four corners of the room. Though it is hard to capture some good images of the painted space, here are a few simple sample pictures of the walls in our kitchen where I also hand painted many, many green and red/magenta tile designs around the entire room and behind all the counter backsplashes… I am going to miss all the very detailed wall art I have done in the rooms in this house where my kids grew up; but we are all looking forward to many beautiful features in our new house on a hill overlooking our hometown of Cincinnati. The city lights in the background of our house under construction... A 6 foot painted canvas of our new backyard and its view. By the beginning of this summer, I plan to plug into the sunsets there for my new daily evening show...
